Shootings at Loughborough University "Music event"

Seven people have been taken to hospital after a shooting at a Leicestershire university.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service said one man aged 20 had been shot in the abdomen during the incident at Loughborough University at 0245 GMT.

Six others were also injured during what was described as a scuffle that broke out after CS gas was sprayed following a public live music event.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Non-life threatening

The man who was shot was described as being in a non-life threatening condition in hospital.

One of the other six injured was a 26-year-old woman who was punched in the face. The extent of her injuries were not fully known.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Taylor, the officer leading the investigation, said: "It is important that we ascertain the circumstances leading up to the incident.

"If you were at the music event and witnessed the incident or have any information about who is involved, then I'd urge you to get in contact with us."

OK, what do we know about gun culture in this country? It's linked in with the export of American Hip-Hop culture. There's an entire police department dedicated to black on black violence, it's called Trident. Here at DrunkenBlogging, we (well, I) do what journalists used to do in the olden days, and did a little journalistic investigation.

When one hears the term music event in the same breath as gun shot, what kind of music springs to mind? Perhaps a Beethoven symphony gone awry? ... Well, immediately on hearing "gun shot" and "music event" in the same report I'll tell you what comes to my mind. Hip-hop or Speed Garage.

We have a problem in this country in "black culture" and guns. Those involved in the shooting incident may or may not be black. This is not a racial issue per se. But it's the culture they are living. The rapping about violence will not be catalyst for anything other than the propensity for aggression and violence.

News from the BBC

Update: from l3viman in the comments

Falk-Egg news has learned that 20 year old Aaro Waller, Loughborough university student and union security bouncer was shot 3 times. 1st hand accounts say that a CS gas bomb was let off just after the group pretty ricky left the stage in room 1. Just outside the union entrance is where the shooting occurred where Aaron Waller was shot once in the stomache and twice in the leg there is an ongoing police investigation

They are in a stable condition it is reported.

So who are Pretty Ricky? They are a hip-hop group. Quelle surprise.

The BBC have u
pdated with this:

The event, a live performance by American urban band Pretty Ricky, was attended by members of the public as well as university students.

"Urban" is a liberal-lefty euphemism for "black". This reminds me of the hilarious character Fiona in the comedy sketch show Little Miss Jocelyn. She often refers to urban when she means black

I agree and can relate to everything you have said here.
really like that you have been adding a bit more of your own reasoning to posts.
I'm sure when the article only stated "music event" things classical did come to peoples minds at first.
Strange how culture does seem to center around music. There is a hip hop club here that is shut down at least every three months and the police are called everyweekend. Things are usually violent and involve gun play.
Why do you think this genre goes in that direction, where as at the redneck bar, there are still problems and viloence... but an all out brawl (fist fights, bottle broken over head type) is the prefered ending for the night?

Thankyou for that Anon. That's very sad indeed. I haven't frequented Jihad Watch for quite a while, but I know some very decent and intelligent people who do. God bless.

Tu s tin, I think the difference is that hip-hop culture is mostly about power, power through money, guns and violence. The vacuous soul of music would be gangsta rap. Drugs and the high life will feature frequently, giving delusions of grandeur.

Whereas the rednecks are a more simple folk, low aspirations, more about territory, possessiveness, and generally I think they're music sings about being drunk and relationships with women, rather than violence explicitly.

When i lived in London, i worked with a school set up to help severely disadvantaged black boys escape a life of drug dealing and violence.

It's called the Eastside Young Leaders Academy and is run by a Jamaican guy called Ray Lewis, one of the most inspiring men you will ever meet.

His one pet hate - hip hop - and the mainly white liberal media's cowardice in condemning this culture. He attributes the reason to old-fashioned patronising racism. He's right.

Hear hear. There really is a cowardice amongst white liberals and challenging people on attitudes if they happen to be of a different hue. Pathetic really.

BBC Midlands Today news mentioned a 'music festival' at Loughborough University. The ITV local news said a shooting occured during a rap concert and showed a picture of the notorious rap band Pretty Ricky. No reason for the bands noteriety were given on ITV.

On the BBC news web page the band are
'American urban band Pretty Ricky', and the rap concert was ' a live music event'.

Why all this coyness ? Is the BBC trying to change the language ? I always thought 'urban' was a generic name for a built-up area, not the colour of a bands skin.
Maybe I should spend more time annoying lefties and islamists, and less worrying about nomenclature of rap bands.

Hehe Malcolm. Why the coyness? I think Pommygranate above has it right.

Just to say my post on the incident has been removed. The police say it is an ongoing investigation so I cannot reveal to much info. Thus I decided to delete the post and report news at a later date.

hummmm... where is the challenge coming from the black community?
sounds just as racist to blame liberal whites for their problems?
I know I live in a fantasy dream world where everyone is the same species regaurdless of what colour they are, which kind of sticks the "white liberal" label on my forhead, but I would the first to stand up against the rap industry and say look what your doing! just as much as I would tell billy bob... sit down dumb ass your fucking up my good time.

Thanks for the update Levi Freeman.

I am have received correspondence from the Hip Hop club at the university and have removed some inaccurate/irrelevant material already.

Nobody's blaming white liberals for the gun crime problem! (although it could be argued that these white liberals have allowed it to get like this) Merely I think pointing out that there is a particular reluctance to challenge these attitudes, simply because they relate to black people.

These same people would be screaming blue murder if white working class were doing 90% plus of the gun killings in London.

There are challengers within the black community, see here. But certainly more needs to be done. A lot more.
